When you're working, you think about doing a zillion things which never materialize since you don't find time (‘cuz you’re slogging your ass off for something that you aren’t even appreciated for!), or you end up lazing on the only day off on a weekend, or you tend to think you’ll end up doing them over a period of time when you get used to the pressures at work.
But suddenly when you are unemployed, it’s like you don’t know what to do at all with all the time you have! The interviews you attend, the job search through (those-not-so-useful) websites, the advices you get from everyone (from the landlord to waiters!) seems to be what your life’s revolving around! And then when you still have time, you don’t know what to do out of it!
Well this post doesn’t revolve around what you can/should do when you’re unemployed (‘cuz i’m still figuring out that one!). On the contrary, it’s what you shouldn’t do when you are unemployed!
- Binging on food: Munching on chips & other comfort food does no good! ‘cuz you only end up putting on weight & end up not fitting into most of your clothes!
- Telling your relatives: “Never”- “ever” tell your relatives, especially these older ones in the family. This would apply to you if you are a girl especially. The minute you tell them you’ve quit your job, the first line you get from them is – “Why don’t you get married? There’s this nice, rich guy who’s blah-blah’s cousin sister’s husband’s uncle’s neighbour’s son! He’s rich & your life will be settled!” C’mon!
- Marathon: I’m not talking about the marathon where you run or walk. I’m talking about going on a series or a movie marathon. Watching all the series or movies on your hard disk as soon as possible will only drive crazy once you’re done with it & have nothing else to watch.
- Looking like ‘Hagrid’: For those who haven’t read/watched Harry Potter, go & google it! Being unemployed doesn’t mean that you should go around looking like crap with faded old clothes or unkempt hair! Look good & you’ll feel good.
- Losing hope: Finally never lose hope! Hope is something we live on. Be optimistic, take your time but only take something up if you really would enjoy doing it. At the end of the day it’s what you love doing & being happy that matters! J
